Summary


Deputy Police Chief Thomas Habib always thought they'd be rolling him out of the police station in a wheelchair, but now he's leaving of his own accord, returning to his investigative roots. Habib, one of the longest-serving members of the North Haven Police Department, is retiring Feb. 28 after 32 years as a police officer, the last four as deputy chief.

He wasn't planning to retire until he heard about a job that piqued his interest and decided to apply. He said that the job of special lead investigator with the state Department of Mental Retardation was too good to pass up, especially since the Wallingford resident will be working in the state agency's Wallingford office.
