In March 2003 the town of Middlebury issued Baker Residential Ltd. a permit to build a single-family home off Christian Road on what once was vacant land. The house was one of 126 planned in an upscale development called Brookside at Middlebury, designed to attract professionals and young families. Construction costs weren't cheap. A home built on lot 63 was estimated to run $232,379, according to records in Town Hall. The builder calculated the cost of building on lot 11 at $205,601. Homes in the development, which measure 2,215 square feet to 3,355 square feet, sell for $437,990 up to $509,990.

Out of 126 homes, the company has only 20 left to sell.
