NEW HAVEN -- Heavy rain and winds caused flooding on some city streets and homes Wednesday night. The Route 34 connector was flooded in both directions and the fire department rescued numerous stranded motorists whose cars were submerged in the water, which was up to 3 1/2 feet deep in some places.
Traffic backed up as cars were diverted onto secondary streets. Whalley Avenue, Brewery Street, State Street, Quinnipiac Avenue and Middletown Avenue were all were flooded by late evening.See the full content of this document
