EAST HAVEN -- For Agnes Cantore, knowing how to swim came in handy. "We had a big backyard pool, and my mother was an excellent swimmer who taught all of us kids how to swim," said a daughter, Claire Dunaj of East Haven. "One day, some of her friends came to visit, and they had a 5-year-old daughter. She was playing in the pool and started to go under. My mother, who always sat on the deck and played lifeguard, spotted her and dove in and rescued her before we even realized what had happened."
Cantore died Nov. 17 at age 84.See the full content of this document
