HAMDEN -- Michael Schaffer believes that when he and his family reopen their newly renovated and expanded hotel next week, guests will be paying close attention to top-of-the-line amenities. On Tuesday, however, he was on the phone, working out one of the thousand small details remaining -- the paint for the walls in the pool and spa, due from California on Friday, may be another two days in coming.

"Headache No. 10,5381/2," he said with a grin. "Now I have to call the guy doing the pool itself and try and push him back two days."
