The first proclamation ironically came from Windham football coach Brian Crudden, who called his counterparts at Hillhouse the "Heroes of New Haven." Surely, there will be more to follow.

Hillhouse, indeed, played heroically Saturday and routed Windham 28-6 for the Class M state championship at Arute Field on the campus of Central Connecticut State. It was the second title for the Academics in the past four years and third in school history since the CIAC sanctioned the playoffs 30 years ago.
