Bobby Fox wanted to play collegiate golf, and he wanted to get out of the cold New England weather. So last fall, he sent out a resume to Val Verhunce, golf coach at Division II Sonoma State University.

When Fox didn't hear back from Verhunce for a few months, he figured he'd have to look elsewhere. Then, out of the blue, the coach called at the end of January and was intrigued enough to invite Fox out for an official visit to the bucolic campus located in the middle of northern California wine country, about 50 miles north of San Francisco.
