-NEW HAVEN -- A former police detective arrested in a federal corruption probe was granted a disability pension Thursday in a case that prompted the pension board to re-examine whether its criteria for injury-related retirements should be reformed. After hearing yet another medical report, the Police and Fireman's Pension Board voted 5-1, awarding disability benefits to fired Detective Justen Kasperzyk, 34, who was arrested in March and submitted his pension papers days later. The request has been sitting since then as the board sought additional medical information and opinions. Kasperzyk has a back injury.
