Fewer Firms Saw More Venture Capital in '05

Summary


Venture capitalists poured $51.1 million into five Connecticut companies during the fourth quarter, marking a 6.7 percent increase in funding compared with the same period in 2004, but divided among a smaller group. The quarterly MoneyTree Survey released today shows the average amount given to Connecticut companies during the fourth quarter totaled $10.2 million. During the fourth quarter of 2004, venture capitalists gave $47.9 million divided among eight companies, with the average deal hitting $6 million.

The survey, from PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomson Venture Economics and the National Venture Capital Association, also shows a 14.7 percent decrease from the third quarter of 2005, when investors distributed $59.9 million among eight companies.
