Family, Friends Were Her Canvas, and 'Every Day Was a Masterpiece'?

Summary

NORTH HAVEN -- Sonia Sophie Alling kept a close and caring eye on her relatives. "My parents were going away for a week, and Grandma pulled in our driveway as they pulled out," recalled a granddaughter, Meghan Witheril of Wallingford. "I was 16 at the time, and could have stayed by myself, but my grandmother didn't like the idea of me being alone. We had a great time. We went to the mall, and she watered the flowers around the house. I always liked to do projects with her, including a lot of egg decorating. She was very loving and warm and generous, and always saw the glass as half full."

Alling died Oct. 26 at age 86.
