The death rate among older Americans from falling has jumped about 55 percent since the mid-1990s as people survive longer with conditions that make them more vulnerable. Nationwide, the rate of unintentional fall deaths was about 34 people per 100,000 ages 65 and older. That reflects incidents between 1999 and 2004, the most recent figures available.
