Summary


The New York Jets signed quarterback Chad Pennington to a contract extension, preventing him from becoming a free agent after the upcoming season, and gave an extension to injured cornerback Jamie Henderson. The Jets didn't disclose terms of either contract. ESPN reported on its Web site that Pennington got a seven-year extension through the 2011 season that is worth $64.2 million, including $23 million in guaranteed bonuses.

Pennington had set a deadline for Wednesday to reach an agreement or wait until the end of the season.
