Summary
The state Department of Environmental Protection has tentatively rejected an application for a discharge permit for the former English Station power plant, an approval that would be needed if plans to restart the mothballed generating station in New Haven are ever to go forward. The DEP's denial of discharge permit was on an application that dates back to 2001 when officials of Quinnipiac Energy LLC were still trying to restart the power plant that had been shut down by the United Illuminating Co. in 1992 because of operating inefficiencies.
