Election 2007: Freda Nominated for Kopetz' Seat

Summary

Michael Freda, a Republican who lost reelection to the Board of Finance, now has the opportunity to represent the town on the Board of Selectmen.

Meeting in special session Tuesday night, the Republican Town Committee picked Freda to fill the third seat on the Board of Selectmen. The Republicans were faced with making the decision because outgoing Republican First Selectman Kevin J. Kopetz, who was elected as the minority member of the board Nov. 6, decided not to accept the position. The newly elected Democrats on the Board of Selectmen, First Selectwoman-elect Janet M. McCarty, and Selectman- elect Steve Fontana, have 30 days to decide whether to accept Freda as the Republican member of the board.
