Summary


FEBRUARY, Black History Month, is a time to reflect on the tremendous contributions people of African descent have made and continue to make to the development of American society and world civilization -- contributions far too long ignored, distorted, marginalized or outright lied about. Even with the unprecedented presidential run of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, America still needs Black History Month to reflect on the past and respect the present.

Thus, the West Haven Black Coalition should be applauded for its annual awards dinner. This year, the Dr. Edwin R. Edmonds Humanitarian Award goes to the distinguished jurist, Connecticut Appellate Judge Lubbie Harper Jr., the only black on that court.
