The new optical voting system used in Connecticut elections does not adequately guarantee a secret ballot. We are New Haven natives and each of us voted in New Haven's Ward 24. After filling out the scan card at a private booth, we were directed to place the card in a scanning machine. An election official stood directly over the scanning machine and could easily see the completed ballot.
A system that allows the election official to glance and see the voter's completed ballot violates Article 6, Section 5 of the Connecticut Constitution, which provides that "the right of secret voting shall be preserved."See the full content of this document
