Letter to the Editor: Physicians' Perspective Not Reported

Summary

The Connecticut State Medical Society is deeply disappointed that the Register did not present a physician's point of view in the story "Anthem teams up with Zagat." Had a reporter contacted any Connecticut physician, the story might have contained perspective and some additional key facts. For example, Anthem's press release stated that the purported ratings concern non-medical areas. Thus, the statement that rating physicians like restaurants would determine "the best doctors" is, at best, a stretch.

Also absent from the story is the fact that the program includes no means for physicians to see their scores or comments from patients. How can a physician "self-correct," as Anthem suggests, if he or she does not have immediate access to the information being posted? Isn't a patient better served by talking to his doctor face- to-face rather than posting comments on a Web site?
