Driver Gets Probation in Crash That Killed Girl, 7

NEW HAVEN -- The driver at fault in a car crash that killed a 7- year-old girl has received 18 months of probation. As part of a plea bargain agreement, Matthew Vitelli of New Haven, who was 22 at the time of the crash, entered a no contest plea to one count of negligent homicide with a motor vehicle. Vitelli had also been charged with making an improper turn, a count that was nolled, court records show.

If Vitelli violates probation, he faces up to six months in jail, under a sentence imposed by Superior Court Judge David Gold.
