Destefano Plan Would Provide Health Care for All

Summary


New Haven Mayor John DeStefano Jr. has proposed a universal health care plan for Connecticut that would reward participating businesses with a major cut in corporate income taxes, while providing basic prevention-based coverage for all. It shares the cost of health care among the individual, businesses and the state; expands the pool of participants by combining the small group and individual markets; offers a basic plan that can be upgraded; and allows portability.

"There is nothing that Connecticut families care about more today than having access to decent-quality health care. There is nothing that is holding back job growth in this state for small- and mid- size businesses as is the cost of health care," DeStefano said.
