A Derby man went on trial Monday for allegedly opening fire on a car carrying two young girls in 2005, but the case against him appears to hinge almost entirely on the word of a twice-convicted felon cooperating with authorities.

Daycus Bailey, 24, formerly of 184 Caroline St., is on trial for attempted first-degree assault, criminal use of a firearm, and two counts of risk of injury to a minor for allegedly spraying a Chevy Tahoe with bullets on High Street in Ansonia March 13, 2005.
