On Monday morning of this amazing week, I came across a guy I know in downtown New Haven who asked me, "What's new?" "It's all about this primary election tomorrow," I replied. "Well, whoop-de- do!" he said. "They're all a bunch of crooks."

I felt sorry for him. He was sitting on the sidelines, mouthing the cynic's cliches about "crooked politicians" and missing out on one of the most exciting weeks for democracy in Connecticut history.
