University of Connecticut recruit Elena Delle Donne was named the Naismith female high school girls' basketball player of the year on Wednesday. Delle Donne, a 6-foot-5 guard at Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Del., is the leading scorer in Delaware high school girls' basketball history. She will join 2006 and 2007 Naismith winner Maya Moore in Storrs this fall.

Delle Donne, who missed 10 games due to mononucleosis, is averaging 30 points a game for Ursuline and had 90 points and 11 3- pointers in the Raiders' first three games in the Delaware state tournament, including 29 in three quarters of play in Ursuline's 59- 27 win over Sanford in Wednesday's semifinals.
