IT WAS SIX YEARS AGO that I first interviewed James Quinlivan, co- owner of Guilford's Stone House restaurant. Back then, he was new to the job, and was hoping to stabilize an historic space that had devolved over time into an unreliable eatery with a spotty reputation.

Today, the Stone House is more than stable. In fact, thanks to Jim and chef/partner Peter Hamme, it has become one of the finest restaurants on Connecticut's shoreline, and just keeps getting better, season by season, year by year.
