ITHACA, N.Y. -- As the first period ended Friday, Yale sophomore goalie Matt Modelski snuffed out a quick wrist shot on a breakaway from Cornell's Shane Hynes as time expired, and the Bulldogs skated into the locker room in a scoreless tie. It capped an invigorating period for Modelski, and it looked as if Yale might be able to steal one against the Big Red, ranked 12th in the country.
