A Sorghum Mill Drive woman was strangled and her two daughters died of smoke inhalation in the Monday home invasion by a pair of paroled burglars who also beat the family's husband and father and held them all hostage before setting the house on fire, authorities said Tuesday.

Joshua Komisarjevsky, 26, of 840 N. Brooksvale Road, and Steven Hayes, 44, of 5H Horn Ave., Winsted, were arraigned Tuesday morning in Superior Court in Meriden in connection with the home invasion that left Jennifer Hawke-Petit, 48, and her two daughters -- 17- year-old Hayley and Michaela, 11 -- dead, and Dr. William Petit Jr., 50, badly injured.
