Newly equipped with Internet technology, the tax collector's office has taken in more than $10,000 in motor vehicle taxes that have been unpaid for as long as 15 years. And it also has collected one irate taxpayer -- Catherine Jenssen, now of East Lyme -- who refuses to pay a $445 bill for back taxes and accumulated interest on a 1986 Mazda she hasn't owned for more than a decade.
