Twelve Board of Aldermen committees with newly appointed chairmen and members begin meeting this week, discussing grant disbursements, youth activities, the city budget and changes to local laws. At the beginning of every two-year term, the aldermen give the board president a list of preferences for committee assignments. Aldermanic President Carl Goldfield, D-29, of Beaver Hills, said he made his decisions along with other officers of the board for chairmanships.
With fewer veterans on the board, opportunities opened up for legislators with two or fewer terms under their belts to lead a committee, and Democrats had to pick up slightly more seats than in the recent past because there are fewer minority party aldermen for the 2006-07 term.See the full content of this document
