Summary
Editor's note: The following is a statement by Anthony P. Rescigno, president of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, to the New Haven Board of Aldermen regarding a proposal to expand the city's living wage ordinance. THE Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and its members have grave concerns about the negative impact of the proposed expansion to the city's living wage ordinance. We remain supportive of the existing living wage ordinance, but we strongly oppose this sweeping expansion, which will have harsh financial and legal consequences.
The chamber represents businesses of all sizes in 15 cities and towns that cope with frequent increases in fixed costs, such as utilities and employee health care. Adding high costs and regulatory requirements to companies who choose a New Haven location must be carefully weighed. Implementation of the proposal would put New Haven at a severe disadvantage with any other city in the Northeast.See the full content of this document
