How is it that I can catch a bus on Campbell Avenue in West Haven and never have a wait of more than 10 minutes, then in New Haven -- a city with twice the populace and size -- have to wait 40 minutes for a bus on any of its main thoroughfares? Waiting for a bus on Whalley Avenue has become an almost surreal experience. I waited nearly an hour for a bus to take me down Grand Avenue to the Green. Once there, it was as if someone flicked a switch and turned out the lights as I watched the town shut down around me. All buses disappeared, the Green went dark, all before 9:30 p.m. on a weeknight.
The subsidized public transportation system should somehow make sense and keep to a schedule, especially in these times when government is expected to be a major component in improving our lot and economy.See the full content of this document
