When Buick signed on as a title sponsor for the former Greater Hartford Open in 2003, the company's sights were already set toward 2006. The GHO was headed toward horrible dates in late August of both 2004 and 2005 because, at the time, the tournament was on life support. Then, numerous companies helped form the infamous bridge plan to keep the tournament afloat for 2003 before Buick took over.
