NORTH BRANFORD -- This is the kind of strong individual and loyal friend that America "Amy" Bova was. "I was in the hospital, having a baby," said longtime friend Eleanor Pocrob of North Branford. "When I was getting ready to come home, Amy walked up the big hill to my house during a terrible snowstorm to clean my house, so it would be ready for me when I got there. She was the sweetest and most honest person you'd ever want to know."

Bova, who died July 7 at age 82, also was a very patient and compassionate person. "She taught me how to cook and bake beginning when I was 8 or 9," said a daughter, Julie Woytowich of Wallingford. "She would make homemade shells and had this special litle pan she would fry them in, and she would let me flip them. I think I probably cracked a lot of them, but she was very patient with me and let me keep going."
