BRANFORD -- John "Chubby" Torino loved talking to people everywhere he went. "He would talk to people when he was in a line at the grocery store," said his wife of 39 years, June Torino. "Basically, he would talk to anyone who wanted to talk to him. He liked small get-togethers and especially getting together with his friends to play cards and shoot the breeze. One friend he had known going all the way back to kindergarten, and they loved to tease each other constantly."

"Chubby" Torino picked up his nickname in childhood. Oddly enough, he was always thin, his wife noted, figuring there probably was a heavyset childhood counterpart nicknamed "Skinny." Torino also shared his last name with that of a long-ago Ford Motor Co. model, and as a gag gift someone once presented him with the metal nameplate off an old Ford Torino, she added.
