Malia, a home-grown historian who began his career as a boy on a bicycle searching for clues -- a Colonial-era grave in this case -- is truly inspiring to me as a cycling advocate and educator. I believe the bicycle can be an effective vehicle to teach lessons about history and a myriad of other subjects.
I think the state Department of Environmental Protection had the right idea when it launched its "No Child Left Inside Program," which focuses on environmental education and has offered bicycle tours in rural areas for inner-city youths.See the full content of this document
