Several state-owned swimming areas, including Silver Sands State Park in Milford and Wharton Brook State Park in Wallingford, were closed Tuesday because of high bacteria levels. State officials said they decided to close the facilities after water samples were taken and analyzed Monday. Officials attributed the problem to runoff from recent heavy rain.
