Amann, Smith Were Incorrect, Mariculture Says

Summary

MILFORD -- A spokesman for a company seeking to farm oysters just beneath the surface of Long Island Sound said Tuesday state officials provided misinformation when they announced Friday the proposal would be withdrawn. "That was false information that James Amann and Win Smith shared with the public," said Joe Conti, a spokesman for Mariculture Unlimited, the developer of a controversial proposal to raise oysters off the coast of Milford and Westport.

Conti spoke in response to a request for confirmation that his company planned to withdraw its applications for Connecticut, as was recently announced by House Majority Leader James A. Amann, D- Milford, and state Sen. Winthrop S. Smith Jr., R- Milford.
